ACC Senior Services transportation program (ACC Rides) is a lifeline that provides door-to-door transportation to seniors in the community, providing a measure of independence for people who are unable to drive or use public transport.
In this role, volunteers will accompany a volunteer driver transporting seniors to various programs, medical appointments and social outings operating an ACC vehicle (either a mini van or small bus) within a 10-mile driving distance of ACC Senior Services location at 7334 Park City Drive located in the Greenhaven/Pocket area.
Volunteer Activities:
Safely transport seniors, operating an ACC vehicle, to various locations following a pre-scheduled itinerary, this includes escorting them to/from the door, ensuring they are safely buckled in and acting in a professional courteous manner. A volunteer assistant may be available to accompany the volunteer driver in support of these activities.
What we are looking for from Volunteers:
Ability to bend, lift fifty (50) pounds, and drive intermittently over a 4 to 8 hour period of time.
Good interpersonal and communication skills (written and verbal).
Willingness and ability to work with older adults from diverse ethnic backgrounds, who may have physical and/or cognitive disabilities.
Skill in languages other than English (e.g. Chinese, Tagalog, Japanese, Southeast Asian languages, Spanish, etc.)
Desire and ability to work with diverse elderly populations with a positive and caring approach.
